First time tying these, left some with a longer tail and some with a shorter tail. Probably try the shorter ones first for trout.

Materials

Instructions

  1. Slide on conehead and add 15-20 wraps of lead wire, slide it forward into the cone.
  2. Tie in wire and wrap to the bend of the hook.
  3. Tie in the braid, wrap thread forward to cone, wrap braid forward and secure with thread.
  4. Snip the hair off a small spot on the zonker strip and secure it to the hook as close as you can get it behind the cone.
  5. Pull the strip back tight over the top of the hook, give a full wrap with the copper wire and then spiral wrap forward to the cone. Secure wire and cut off excess.
  6. Tie in another zonker strip the same way as the first, wrap around 1-3 times depending on preference for the collar. Stay as tight to the cone as possible.
  7. Whip finish.
