Some kind of purple haze #klinkhammer pattern. First time tying a klinkhammer style fly and it took a couple tries to get the hackle size down. I initially tied it with smaller hackle, this one had somewhere around true to size 12 hackle but I think it could go bigger. #attractor

Materials

  • H-390-BL
    Hook
  • Strung Peacock Herl
    Feather
  • Ice Dub
    Dubbing

    Thread
  • Whiting Pro Grade Cape
    Hackle
  • Whiting Pro Grade Cape
    Hackle
  • Polypropylene Yarn
    Yarn

Instructions

  1. Wrap thread down to around bend and then wrap dubbing forward to where the parachute post will be.
  2. Tie in poly yarn post.
  3. Tie tips of both hackle feathers onto the post, I add a dab of cement here. It stiffens the post and keeps the hackle secure.
  4. Tie in 2 or 3 strands of peacock herl forward toward the hook eye.
  5. Twist the peacock herl together and wrap back to the post, take one wrap around the back of the post and then wrap back to the hook eye and secure with thread.
  6. Whip finish behind the hook eye and snip thread.
  7. Take a couple wraps around the base of the post. It helps if the cement isn't dry yet.
  8. Take two or three turns with both hackle feathers down to the bottom of the post and secure with thread.
  9. Snip or break off the hack feathers. Apply some cement to the thread and whip finish under the hackle on the post.
